Is VR Here Yet?

All right, how do we all feel about VR? Is it here yet? Let’s discuss it together with our QA Engineer Artem Nikolaidis.

For the past decade Virtual Reality (VR), undoubtedly, has captured lots of attention on grounds of promising immersive possibilities and endless potential. Despite the fact that VR technologies evolved dramatically in the past few years, the internet is crowded with a vast variety of different designs of how VR and AR could also be applied. From virtual co-working space for remote employees to in-depth human body schemes, the potential of such technologies is limitless! But is VR here yet?

One of the primary challenges facing VR technology today is its ergonomics. While the concept of stepping into another world is intriguing, the reality of massive headsets and controllers can distract from the overall experience. Users often face discomfort and fatigue, limiting the amount of time they can spend in VR environments. As we strive to make VR more accessible to all, addressing these ergonomic concerns must be a top priority.

Another pressing issue is the short battery life of VR devices. Nothing disrupts immersion quite like having to abruptly end a session due to a drained battery. Whether you're exploring virtual landscapes or engaging in collaborative workspaces, the fear of losing power might be stressful. Extending battery life and implementing more efficient power management systems are essential steps in ensuring a seamless VR experience.

Our main goal is to ensure seamless VR experience for our users despite hardware limitations that are currently affecting the industry. To do that, we are using WebXR technology that allows users to access VR applications directly from the browser, without the need to install any additional software and using almost any VR headset available on the market. In addition to the above, WebXR is cross-platform which simplifies developing experience. Speaking of that, our team is using the React-Three-Fiber library which allows writing code in a more intuitive and easy way and also Vite, which speeds up builds, tests and overall loading user experience. Technologies mentioned provide powerful synergy that allow users to have the best possible immersive experience while developers are working with transparent and efficient technologies stack.
