Vlad, Head of the Analytics team, recently moved to Cyprus with his wife and young daughter.
Before that, the family spent almost two years living in Argentina and had time to see the world — they’ve now been to more than sixty countries. (Yes, we’re a bit jealous too.)
“We were looking at Europe — mostly Portugal or Spain. But Cyprus checked all the same boxes: the sea, the sun, a relaxed lifestyle, and it’s still just a few hours from Europe. The more we thought about it, the more it made sense.”
The first few weeks confirmed their choice. Everything moved slower — but in the best way possible.
“Everything is close here. You don’t waste hours on the road, and the pace is completely different. I felt calm for the first time in a long while.”

Three things that make relocation easier
Spoiler alert: no one’s going to tell you to “be more flexible”.
1. Start with your home — the unexpected hack.
The right apartment sets the tone for everything else.
“Start with your home. Find an apartment you genuinely like — even better than what you had before. Then no matter what’s happening outside, you’ll come back and think: okay, maybe I’m still figuring things out, but at least this feels right.”
2. Keep moving — literally.
Vlad has been diving for a while, so picking it up again on Cyprus was an easy choice — especially once he found out how many great dive spots the island has, including the famous Zenobia wreck near Larnaca.
Cyprus makes it easy to stay active — there’s always something to do outdoors, and at work there’s support to keep it going.
“You don’t have to pick one thing. You can just try different things until you find what clicks.”
3. Find your people.
Finding a community and people with shared interests makes adaptation so much easier.
“There’s a big community here — concerts, stand-ups, all kinds of events. Life’s pretty active, and you meet people quickly. It doesn’t feel like an island cut off from the world.”
That mix — a place you enjoy, a sport that gives you energy, and people you like — turned relocation from a challenge into something that simply made sense.

Cyprus vs. Europe — without the filters
After living in different parts of the world, relocation became a practical decision, not an escape. When the family compared Europe with Cyprus, the numbers — and the lifestyle — simply made more sense.
Here’s what stood out (handle with care — Vlad’s opinion ahead):
💶 Taxes. Two to three times lower than in most European countries.
🏠 Housing. Rents can be higher than in Europe, but the trade-off is shorter distances and a simpler daily routine — everything is close, and commuting takes minutes, not hours.
👶 Kids. Mayflower covers 50% of kindergarten and school costs, which makes family life easier.
🧘 Sports. The company fully covers all types of sports — from gym memberships to diving, SUP, and yoga.
🌞 Weather. Around 320 days of sunshine a year and mild winters.
🌍 Travel. Two to three hours to most European destinations.
🔒 Safety. Low crime rate, safe streets, and a relaxed pace of life.
